Welcome
The Nurses Association of Westchester County, Inc., District 16 of the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA), is an organization serving hundreds of nurses and nurse practitioners in Westchester County, New York City, and surrounding areas. We offer educational and holistic seminars, workshops, programs, legislative, and social events. Our professional networking activities are in collaboration with other nursing and healthcare organizations, including the American Nurses Association (ANA).
Our mission is to encourage and enhance the professional development of nurses by offering educational opportunities and supporting information on health care and legislative issues.

Membership
District 16 Membership Application (.pdf format; Adobe Acrobat Reader required)
- General individual membership: $40. per year
- New RN graduates: $20. for the first year
- Lifetime NYSNA members: $20. per year

Program Policies
District members attend regular programs at no cost. Full-time, non-licensed nursing students may attend District programs free with student ID. Non-district members and part-time nursing students with an RN license pay full cost.

New Feature: “Remember When”
Remember When…
- Nurses wore a cap, white uniforms, white stockings and white shoes (they had to be polished and clean at all times) with white laces.
- We had capes from our schools and wore them with pride.
- The only ring you were allowed to wear was your wedding ring (or occasionally an engagement ring).
- The only earrings you were allowed to wear were studs (in your EARS).
- Your hair had to be off your collar and neat!
- You washed and starched your crowning glory - your cap. We worked hard for that cap and were proud of it. You attached it to your head with a series of bobbypins we called a "brain patch".
- Patients and families were our main concern.
- IV's were glass bottles that hung on metal poles (at the foot or head of the bed with tape along the sides that we put up after calculating the drip rates, after adding medications from multiple dose vials ordered by the Doctors to have “1000cc's with “xy&z” to run over 8hrs.”
- Glass syringes, with separate needles, metal tubex's with “cartridges” to give medications. Other medications came in multi-dose vials which we had to mix while calculating the correct dosage on a piece of scrap paper.
- Metal bedpans and urinals that had to be emptied, cleaned and autoclaved in the dirty utility room; very little was disposable or made out of plastic.
- Urine test strips — S&A's (Sugar and Acetone)
- Evening shift meant PM care and backrubs for all patients.
…those were the days!
