“The battle is not over,” says Jeannette Torres, a nurse at Westchester Square. In today’s Daily News she says nurses and the community will keep fighting to save Westchester Square as a full-service community hospital.
Yesterday, Montefiore was confirmed as the purchaser of the hospital. Monte administrators want to close all inpatient beds, leaving an ER, ambulatory surgery, and outpatient clinics.
To be admitted, ER patients would have to be transported to another hospital.
“I wouldn’t want to come into the hospital and find out that I’m so sick that I can’t go home and then be shipped out to someplace else,” Torres told the Daily News.
