Dear NYSNA Member,
NYSNA has never endorsed a candidate for Mayor in the NYC primaries — until now. Our Board of Directors has unanimously voted to endorse Bill de Blasio to be New York City’s next mayor.
As an ER nurse myself, I can say Bill de Blasio is like one of us. Since the hospital crisis began, we’ve seen Bill in action — and seen what makes him different from the other candidates. He knows what needs to be done to save a patient’s life — there’s not time for platitudes, only for immediate action. Bill de Blasio has taken that needed action, again and again.
Compare that to Mayor Bloomberg. During the Bloomberg years, a dozen hospitals have closed — and the number could rise to as many as 16 before his terms ends. HHC nurses have gone for years without a contract — or the respect we deserve. Just last week, Bloomberg eliminated the Labor and Delivery unit at North Central Bronx Hospital.
Bill de Blasio is committed to a New York where everyone has access to quality care. No matter where they live. No matter what they can pay. That’s the kind of Mayor we need.
We can elect Bill de Blasio our next Mayor — if we vote, and we encourage our friends and co-workers to vote.
Text “NYSNA” to 877-877 and we'll send you updates about the election — and a reminder to vote on primary day, Tuesday, Sept. 10.
We thank all of the Democratic candidates who have shown their support for patients and nurses.
Bill de Blasio has done more than anyone else to protect care for hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers. He has redefined the role of Public Advocate — and fought for those who don't have money, or power, or influence in City Hall.
The primary election is 19 days away. Text “NYSNA” to 877-877, and join our team to elect Bill de Blasio our next Mayor.
Jill Furillo, RN
