Nurses make the case for safe staffing in new video

“You’re only one person. No matter how good a nurse you are, you can only be in one place at one time.” That’s what Kathy Santoiemma, an RN at Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle, says in a new video that explains to the public why we need safe nurse-to-patient ratios.

The video features testimony from Judith Shindul-Rothschild, Ph.D, a researcher who has studied the effects of staffing levels on patient outcomes. And California nurses talk about how their state’s ratio law has dramatically improved patient care.
