LATHAM, October 16, 2012 - The New York State Nurses Association today announced its endorsement of Cecilia Tkaczyk (D) for state senate.
Tkaczyk impressed the Nurses Association with her understanding of health issues – including the need to overhaul the state’s inefficient Medicaid system and implementing safe staffing for all of New York’s hospitals.
“We look forward to Cecilia Tkaczyk’s advocacy for safe staffing levels for patients in every hospital across the state and for nurses who play a key role in delivering quality care,” said Nancy Kaleda, the 37,000-member union's Deputy Director.
“I am proud to receive the endorsement of the Nurses Association,” said Tkaczyk. “The association has done an excellent job in working to ensure that nurses can provide New Yorkers with the quality health care they deserve. I look forward to continuing my efforts to reform state government and reinvigorate the Upstate economy, and together with NYSNA we will find solutions to New York’s health care challenges.”
The New York State Nurses Association is the voice for nursing in the Empire State. With more than 37,000 members, it is New York’s largest professional association and union for registered nurses. The association represents registered nurses, and some all-professional bargaining units, in New York and New Jersey. It supports nurses and nursing practice through education, research, legislative advocacy, and collective bargaining.
