NEW YORK NURSE: April 2009
Registered nurses care for people, both as individuals and communities. As the demand grows for healthcare reform in our nation, nurses are playing a key role in helping to define what this reform should look like.
The Nurses Week theme for 2009, “Nurses: Building a Healthy New York”, reminds us of that important aspect of patient advocacy. On May 6-12, we will use the opportunity to educate our colleagues, neighbors, and legislators about healing our nation’s healthcare system.
NYSNA and many other professional organizations, unions, and consumer groups, strongly support a “single-payer” system – a government-run health insurance program similar to Medicare and available to everyone. Legislation has been introduced at both the national and state levels, and we are ready to make noise about this issue!
Check our website, www.nysna.org, for a new section on healthcare reform with a wide range of informational resources. And watch the May issue of New York Nurse for a special Nurses Week poster from NYSNA.
