NEW YORK NURSE: July/August 2009

A new way to get connected with NYSNA

Affiliation option for RNs, LPNs & students

Do you know an RN who is interested in NYSNA but isn’t ready to become a member?

Do you work with an LPN who wants to learn more about nursing?

Have you met a nursing student who could take advantage of NYSNA services?

Now, with the option to become a NYSNA Affiliate, any of these people can get connected with NYSNA. It’s a low-cost way for nurses and students to become acquainted with the Nurses Association and benefit from a few of the services available to members.

“We are making it clear that an affiliate is not a member,” said NYSNA CEO Tina Gerardi. “It is an opportunity for nonmembers, LPNs, and students to learn about the association and feel part of our community.”

Affiliates will have limited access to services and will not be eligible to run for office or participate in NYSNA committees or practice focus groups. They will not be able to get member discounts or access the “Members Only” section at nysna.org. While members have unlimited consultation with NYSNA staff on practice, legislation, and research, affiliates will have one hour of free consultation per year.

For $52 per year, Individual Affiliates (RNs or LPNs) will receive:

For $15 per year, Student Affiliates will receive:

Affiliations are for a 12-month period and may be renewed. Affiliates must live or work in New York State. Members of NYSNA collective bargaining units and direct NYSNA members are not eligible to become Individual Affiliates.

Student Affiliates must be enrolled in approved education programs located in New York State that are preparing them to become licensed practical nurses or registered professional nurses. Student Affiliates cannot be licensed RNs.

More information and registration forms are available from the NYSNA Executive Office (800-724-NYRN, ext. 275) or at nysna.org.
