NEW YORK NURSE: October 2009
The NYSNA Board of Directors has awarded the 2009 Secor Scholarships to Cheryl Hazel and Michelle Bandigan.
The scholarships are awarded each year to a member who is pursuing additional education and to a family member of a member who is enrolled in nursing school.
Cheryl Hazel works at Queens Hospital Center and is enrolled in the maternal nursing program at Adelphi University in Garden City, N.Y.
Michelle Bandigan is enrolled in the nursing program at Felician College in Lodi, N.J. She is the daughter of NYSNA member Bernadette Maliwat Bandigan who works at Long Island College Hospital.
The Secor Scholarship Fund was made possible by a generous bequest from long-time NYSNA member Jane Secor, who died in 2004. A nursing editor, administrator, and researcher, Secor was the author of three nursing texts and numerous articles.
