NEW YORK NURSE: April 2010
It’s come to NYSNA’s attention that several members have recently received letters from a private law firm based in Rochester offering to investigate wage and overtime violations.
This is not a letter from NYSNA. It was not authorized by NYSNA, nor does it have NYSNA’s endorsement.
It is an advertisement. In fact, the services advertised by this firm are already provided to you by NYSNA.
The issues of wages and meal breaks are mandatory subjects of collective bargaining. As your union representative, NYSNA has worked vigorously to enforce your contract’s provisions, as well as state and federal laws, on these issues. It has defended its members’ rights through the grievance and arbitration process and won. It’s negotiated protections in members’ contracts and has advocated on members’ behalf to regulatory authorities.
NYSNA will continue to do so as such violations are brought to its attention. If you believe you have been taken advantage of, or become aware of any violations in your workplace, please contact your NYSNA representatives. NYSNA will take immediate action at no additional cost to you.
