NEW YORK NURSE: October 2010
NYSNA had a table at the Atlantic Antic, the huge Brooklyn Heights street fair, on Sunday, September 26. Nurses from Brooklyn hospitals such as Long Island College Hospital (LICH), New York Methodist Hospital, Maimonides Medical Center, and many other facilities, both worked at the booth and stopped by.
The nurses used this opportunity to inform the community of patient care issues, with both written material and by speaking with people. Passersby signed petitions supporting the merger between Continuum Health Partners and SUNY Downstate Medical Center at LICH, and the nurses discussed the fact that New York Methodist Hospital continues to violate its contract by not meeting the agreed-upon ratio of nurses to patients on many units.
