NEW YORK NURSE: October 2012
by John A. Hamelin
NYSNA members and staff once again presented an exhibit showcasing the programs and services of the association at The Great New York State Fair, held each summer at the State Fairgrounds outside Syracuse. This year’s fair was held from August 23 through Labor Day, September 3.
An annual display of New York’s finest in agriculture, education, industry and technology, the Fair is an ideal venue for highlighting the profession of nursing, and NYSNA’s efforts on behalf of all New York RNs. NYSNA remains the single exhibitor representing registered nurses and the profession.
The Fair has proven to increase awareness of the profession with the public at large, and to support recruitment into professional nursing career tracks, as efforts continue to address the nationwide nursing shortage. This year’s exhibit focused on the Association’s current Safe Staffing initiative, where volunteers shared information and details on safe staffing legislation. There was an opportunity for the public to offer signatures on petitions, to be presented in support of the Safe Staffing for Quality Care Act.
The Nurses Association looks forward to continuing its annual exhibit at the Fair, a treasured statewide tradition, and the perfect opportunity to salute the work of NYSNA members throughout New York.
