On Wednesday, Dec. 3, the NYSNA HHC and Mayorals Executive Council passed the following resolution:

Tonight our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Eric Garner.

We are shocked and disappointed, given the evidence on the video and audiotape showing excessive force leading to the death of Mr. Garner, that the Grand Jury issued no indictments.

Yet, again, another unarmed Black man has died at the hands of a police officer and there will be no trial, no selection of a fair and unbiased jury, no presentation of evidence, no prospect of a transparent review before the community about whether a mortal crime was committed.

We urge the U.S. Department of Justice to open a full and transparent investigation into all circumstances surrounding Garner’s death, and fully explore civil rights violations.

We stand with all New Yorkers calling for justice and condemn the failure to bring the Garner case to court.

In Solidarity,
Anne Bové, RN
President, NYSNA HHC and Mayorals Executive Council
