In urban and rural areas across New York, hospitals continue to propose closing or cutting services.

Since 2000, more than 30 hospitals have closed across our state. NYSNA is committed to stopping these closures by organizing comprehensive and strategic campaigns to fight hospital closings.

In 2021, NYSNA along with elected officials and community allies, averted the closure of Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital in Westchester County. In 2024, we joined community allies to fight back against the closure of the Burdette Birthing Center in Troy — and won.

NYSNA has successfully organized against cuts to vital services and programs, including maternal health services in the Bronx and Manhattan and mental health services in Brooklyn.

We continue to face many tough fights, including threats to cut mental health and labor and delivery units across the state. NYSNA nurses are ready to fight back to protect the healthcare services that our communities need!
