Owing to a local factory that makes Teflon, the municipal water in Onondaga County’s Hoosick Falls is polluted with perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) – more than 50 times the acceptable level. When local activists from Flint, Michigan came to Hoosick Falls to trade stories and strategies, NYSNA was there, lending our support and amplifying the voices of concerned community members.

After holding a series of press conferences and testifying at hearings, nurses were proud to have inspired official action: Governor Cuomo signed a bill extending the statute of limitations for victims of water contamination to sue corporate polluters for personal damage.
