Formed in 2014 by victims of traffic violence and families whose loved ones have been killed or severely injured by aggressive or reckless driving and dangerous conditions on New York City’s streets, Families for Safe Streets has turned grief into action by fighting for critical safety initiatives like lowering the speed limit and safer street design. The campaign’s diversity reflects the city’s population, and its concerns affect all New Yorkers.

Nurses treat victims of traffic injuries every day, so we know first hand the dangers of unsafe traffic conditions. This campaigns fits into NYSNA’s work to confront not just the conditions in our hospitals and other healthcare facilities, but conditions in the community that increase people’s likelihood of needing our care in the first place.
