In urban and rural areas across New York, hospitals continue to be in danger of closing or cutting services. And these health centers provide crucial care to the communities they serve. NYSNA nurses are skilled and experienced at building powerful coalitions of patients and community members to keep hospitals open for care.

Since 2000, more than 30 hospitals have closed across our state. NYSNA is committed to stopping these closures by organizing comprehensive and strategic campaigns to fight hospital closings.

In 2021, NYSNA, along with elected officials and community allies, averted the the closing of Mount Vernon Hospital in Westchester County, which is located a majority minority community. NYSNA also organized against the cutting of vital services and programs. In the Bronx, a borough with much-needed maternal health services, Montefiore Bronx considered shutting down vital Nurse-Family Partnership programs. NYSNA, along with its allies, were able to organize against this shuttering of services.

We continue to face many tough fights, including threats to cut mental health and psych services and labor and delivery units across the state. N YSNA nurses are ready to fight back to protect the healthcare services that our communities need!
