“NYSNA joins our union sisters and brothers in mourning the sudden death of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka. The son and grandson of coal miners, he spent his last few months fighting for the PRO Act and fighting in solidarity with his fellow UMWA coal miners in Alabama. We remember and thank him for his dedication to working families across the country.”
“President Trumka was a true champion for workers and workers’ rights. As head of our nation’s labor movement, he championed policies to uplift all working people. He firmly believed the labor movement was at the heart of the movement for economic, racial, and social justice.”
“We extend our deepest condolences to his family; and as part of his union family, we vow to carry on the important work of ensuring the dignity of work and the power of working people.”
