NYSNA NURSES AT CENTERLIGHT CONTINUE TO BARGAIN, STRIKE POSTPONED

CenterLight nurses postpone strike as they vote on proposals

Bronx, N.Y. – After bargaining through the weekend, New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) home healthcare nurses at CenterLight Healthcare are calling for a direct member vote on Monday, April 14, on the terms offered by the employer. The proposed deal maintains strong union health benefits, includes improvements to staffing to increase patient visit times, and secures wage increases to retain skilled nurses and protect patient care.

NYSNA nurses at CenterLight postponed the looming strike to discuss the proposal. If members reject the plan, nurses will issue notice informing the employer of their intent to move forward with an unfair labor practice strike.

Nurses have been working without health insurance coverage since the end of last year when they were unlawfully thrown off their health coverage. Without health coverage, home care nurses continued to care for the most vulnerable New Yorkers in their homes and put off necessary doctor’s visits and expensive medications. On Thursday, April 3, CenterLight nurses delivered a strike notice to management and announced they would begin striking on April 14 if they did not get a contract that respected nurses and their patients. Nurses received messages of support from several elected officials and community leaders who publicly called on CenterLight to listen to the nurses and negotiate in good faith.
