In Memoriam, NYSNA Board Member Martha Wilcox, RN

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing and the loss of a dear colleague, treasured NYSNA Board Member and extraordinary public health nurse Martha Wilcox, RN. Martha died in her sleep early this morning. She was 57 years old.

We remember Martha as a dedicated nurse and public health expert, whose commitment to the people of Sullivan County was extraordinary. Martha joined the NYSNA Board of Directors in 2012 at a time when NYSNA was undergoing an organizational transformation. Martha was a leader in that effort, representing the interests of upstate and rural nurses, caring for diverse patient populations.

A conversation with Martha invariably led to her sharing a concern for or recent trend about the health of the communities she served. She was also a diligent member of NYSNA's board, serving on the Finance Committee and the Political Action Committee (PAC), ensuring that the perspective of upstate nurses to those committees would be heard.

Martha's intelligence and warmth inspired everyone. Her dedication reached to the entire state of New York and inevitably to nurses and patients throughout the country. She will be sorely missed by all of us at NYSNA. Our condolences have been shared with her husband, Daniel Wilcox, and sons Daniel, Jr. and Sean, along with her coworkers at Sullivan County Health Department.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 4-8pm, at Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Avenue, Roscoe, New York 12776.
