NYSNA Attends Coverage 4 All Press Conference to Advocate for Expanded Healthcare Coverage
NYSNA Director at Large Michelle Jones, NP, joined Make the Road New York and other community allies in the Coverage 4 All Campaign relaunch in Queens on Thursday, Jan. 25. Championed by Senator Gustavo Rivera in the State Senate and Assembly Member Jessica Gonzalez Rojas in the Assembly, the Coverage for All bill says that the state shall take all necessary actions to seek approval from the federal government to expand the state’s Essential Plan to include individuals of low income who reside in New York and individuals who are not currently eligible for insurance due to their immigration status. No state funds would be spent to enact this life-saving bill, and in fact, the state would save up to $500 million of what it currently spends annually to provide “Emergency Medicaid” for this same population.
Jones spoke in favor of this bill due to its alignment with NYSNA’s mission of expanding healthcare access and offering quality patient care to all New Yorkers, regardless of immigration status. Read more about Coverage 4 All here.
