On Thursday, Sept. 14, NYSNA was proud to join the AFL-CIO’s Day of Action in Solidarity with SAG-AFTRA and WGA members on strike. This past weekend at the Labor Day Parade, striking workers from SAG-AFTRA and WGA took their place at the front of the parade to draw attention to their continued fight for fair contracts. Yesterday, the struggle continued with an energetic picket to remind employers that workers are not backing down. Although from a different sector and doing very different work than nurses, actors, writers, and media and entertainment industry professionals face some of the same challenges. For example, actors are also fighting the greed of multimillion-dollar corporations that place their bottom line before workers and fail to compensate workers fairly for the labor that creates their millions in profits. They are also fighting against the unethical use of artificial intelligence, which is being used to replace them and to profit from their likeness without compensation.
