NYSNA Joins NNU, RWJUH and Sen. Bernie Sanders at Congressional Hearing on Safe Staffing
Nurses from National Nurses United (NNU), NYSNA and the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) joined Sen. Bernie Sanders at an important congressional field hearing in New Brunswick, New Jersey, this morning to discuss the understaffing of nurses and the crisis of care created by a for-profit healthcare system. USW Local 4-200 President Judy Danella, RN, and Carol Tanzi, RN, who are two of the thousands of nurses who have been on strike at RWJUH for over 80 days, testified along with NYSNA President Nancy Hagans, RN, BSN, CCRN, about the safe staffing crisis and need for federal safe staffing ratios. This is the first-ever Senate hearing exploring the issue of safe staffing ratios and the first time a NYSNA president testified at a congressional hearing. To learn more, watch the hearing video.
