On Wednesday, Sept. 13, NYSNA, NNU, Senator Bernie Sanders, Senator Corey Booker and striking nurses at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital (RWJH) in New Jersey came together for a town hall on safe staffing and the employer-created nursing crisis. NYSNA President Nancy Hagans, RN, BSN, CCRN, joined NNU Vice President Cathy Kennedy, RN; United Steelworkers-Local 4200 President and RWJH nurse Judy Danella, RN; and RWJH nurse Carol Tanzi, RN. Hagans spoke in solidarity with striking nurses and shared NYSNA’s experience going on strike, the ground-breaking contracts nurses won and the lessons learned through this fight. She also emphasized that going on strike is a difficult decision and often the very last resort for nurses and said, “If a nurse decides to go on strike, you know there must be something wrong inside the hospital. Nurses should NOT have to go on strike to win basic protections that save people’s lives!” Watch the recording of the livestream video HERE.

NYSNA nurses are in full solidarity with RWJH nurses who have been on strike for over 40 days in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
