On November 29, 2017, Governor Cuomo signed S.1869 (Hannon)/A.7277 (Gottfried), legislation enabling nurse practitioners to execute medical orders not to resuscitate and other orders pertaining to withholding and/or withdrawing life-sustaining treatment, as Chapter 430 of the laws of 2017.
The opioid crisis has had a devastating effect on many of our families and communities. According to the CDC, drug overdoses killed 63,632 Americans in 2016.
The medical mission to Mexico held in the City of Hidalgo and Ejido La Libertad was a huge success! Hosted by Ciudad de Hidalgo, we served about 500 patients, mostly women and children (176 pediatrics patients). We provided free medical screening, consultation and medicine.
NYSNA stands in solidarity with the courageous teachers striking in Colorado and Arizona today. As nurses, we applaud them for taking a stand for their students. Decades of attacks on education and the public sector have created an incredible movement for justice.
An international conference devoted to the issue of "Universal Health for Sustainable Development" is underway in Havana, Cuba, through April 27 and NYSNA Board Member Karine Raymond, RN, is there. Ms. Raymond will participate on one of the panel discussions.
