It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of a long-time member of the NYSNA family – Michael Chacon, MSN, RN. Mike was a union representative, an activist, and a nurse. He came to NYSNA in 1997 after working as a nurse at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center.

In January 2022, nurses at St. Vincent Hospital emerged victorious after waging the longest nurses’ strike in Massachusetts history.

NYSNA nurses and healthcare workers have expressed tremendous solidarity with our union siblings at Mercy Hospital, who were on strike for nearly a month in October 2021.

On Wednesday, October 27, NYSNA members, staff, and invited guests joined our NYSNA 2021 Delegate Convention. This was our first hybrid convention, which allowed hundreds of members across the state to gather safely and engage remotely.

It is with great sadness that I post this. Our longtime NYSNA colleague, activist, and nurse Joan Rowley passed away earlier today due to COVID-19. Joanie had been battling COVID-19 in the hospital for many, many weeks.

This past week brought news of the passing of another former NYSNA staff family member, Latha S. Catlin, RN.
