More than 100 nurses from the Capital Region came together on July 10 – and we voted unanimously to adopt NYSNA's Capital Region platform for Safe Staffing and Quality Care!
Caregivers at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, members of 1199SEIU, reached a contract settlement after a long struggle to win a living wage for the lowest paid workers. In May, NYSNA nurses traveled to Baltimore to rally in support of striking Hopkins caregivers.
Last week, the city council allocated $600,000 in capital funds to support reopening HHC’s North Central Bronx Hospital Labor and Deliver Unit. The unit closed suddenly last year with little notice to expecting mothers or nurses.
On July 4, nurses and our families hit the streets of Staten Island with our first ever float in the annual Travis Parade. Amid rain, shine, cheers, and chants, we came out in NYSNA red to show support for our patients and neighbors in Staten Island and to celebrate our independence.
